Upper School students taking the encaustic elective explore the age-old, yet newly hip technique of encaustic wax painting. Dry pigment is mixed with molten beeswax to create highly textured surfaces on board panels. Students learn fundamental paint preparation, applications, and approaches directed toward personal concepts and expression. Critique participation, studio maintenance, and a final portfolio of paintings constitute the basis for evaluation.
